Yeah! That´s right, The Norwegian Girl got herself a decent paying part time job! Wohoo! About a month and a half ago, I applied to this job position, thinking it would be a good match with my studies. The morning after I applied, I got a nearly frantic call, asking how many days I could work. I was in a bit of a shock, because I did not expect to get such a quick response. I had previously applied to so many positions, but never even got a call! So when this opportunity came knocking on my door, I had to grab it with both hands. Initially I could only work 3-4 days a week, but they really wanted someone who could work 5 times a week. So I took initiative and changed some classes, and got a job interview!
I didn´t get much time to prepare for the interview though, because when they called me, I was out of town! And they wanted me to be there in just a couple of hours. So what did this girl do? I jumped on a train, wearing yesterday´s clothes and rain boots on what turned out being a hot summer´s day, going straight to the interview. Boy, did I feel unprepared. Luckily, I had done some research online during the train ride, so I knew about the organization and how it worked etc. Clearly, me showing such initiative to get there on time, and how I´d changed my classes, and having a decent education, impressed them, because the interview lasted for about 5 minutes, before they asked, “when can you start?”!
my pay is about $25/hour, which I think is pretty good, considering the only educational requirements was a high-school diploma. I work minimum 17 hours a week, so my monthly pay is about $1800, which covers all my living expenses and allows me to save some money each month. I won´t go into detail about my work situation, but I do work with children, so the workplace can be very stressful, but also very rewarding, because “my” children are so adorable and well-behaved! And not to mention all the funny things they say. I really should start writing down the random things they say
. So that´s my big news, how about you? Have you been trying to find some new employment lately? How did it go? Tell it all in the comment field:-)
